A journal of my Freedom Challenge mountain bike adventures, 2007, 2009(tandem)2011, 2012(solo) and 2014. Race to Rhodes and the 2300km Race Across South Africa. The race starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Wellington close to Cape Town, with a 26 day cut-off. The Ride to Rhodes(2008-unblogged and 2010) is a shortened version that starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends 6 days later in Rhodes.

Day 4 - Good sleep at last
2 hours sleep and we were on our way again. We were still sleep deprived and took our first power nap at midday stretched out in the sun. Our most optimistic outlook was to make Slaapkrans but we realised early on that Chesneywold was a more likely prospect. Part of the problem was that my strategy only ran as far as Rhodes in 3 days. The other part of the problem is that I had developed a particularly sore left calf and right shin. One made it difficult to cycle, the other made walking difficult. Not really a combination conducive to speeding along the trail. We eventually arrived at Chesneywold and got a proper nights sleep and our first opportunity for laundry. We had only managed just over half of a normal days ride so had reversed some of our earlier gains.
